Destination KARST
The tourist destination of KRAS stretches between Slovenia's capital Ljubljana and the Adriatic Sea, from plateaus of the Notranjska region to its core, the Classical Karst. In addition to the Postojna Cave and the Predjama Castle, the best-known Slovene attractions, there are a number of less known, but well worth a visit, attractions in the area:
Planinsko Polje with the Planina Cave; the intermittent Cerknica Lake, whose yearly cycle is presented in a scale model; Rakov Škocjan with its two natural bridges; the Bloke Plateau, where frost is present for most of the year and where the skiing tradition is centuries old; the Križna Cave, one of the most beautiful water subterranean caves; the Snežnik Castle, in the past a noble summer residence of proud hunters; as well as Snežnik, the mountain of the same name, the mountain ridge of Javorniki, Slivnica and Nanos, which all make one want to have a bird's-eye view of the landscape as well. Numerous natural and cultural attractions, high-quality restaurants and other culinary establishments, as well as unspoilt nature are by all means reasons for shorter or longer holiday breaks.
