Regular scheduled tours
Standard tours of the Postojna Cave take place daily throughout the year. The number of daily tours and the times depend on the season (see the timetable). The car parks are located 500 metres from the cave entrance, whereas the ticket offices are approximately 100 metres from the entrance. After purchasing the tickets, visitors board the cave train at the scheduled time and are then taken to the Great Mountain (the ride takes 10 minutes), where they are divided into groups according to different languages. Slovene-, English-, Italian- and German-speaking guides are available as part of each single tour and at specific times during the high season (May to September) French-speaking guides as well. Tour guidance in other languages must be arranged in advance. After the groups have been arranged, visitors walk through the cave passages which have been adapted for tourist tours for approximately an hour. There are no steps on the entire trail whatsoever, the tour does however include going up and down some rather steep parts. During the tours, visitors are asked to stop to listen to the guide's explanations a number of times, while at the end, cave guards are also present, who see to the safety of visitors. After an hour, the footpath comes to its end in the Concert Hall, from where visitors are taken back to the exit by the cave train. The entire cave tour takes from 80 to 90 minutes. The temperature in the cave ranges between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius, and the relative humidity between 90 and 100%, so suitable clothing and footwear are recommended.
